Keith Downie issues update on Almiron, Trippier and Wilson from outside SJP – Video

Sky Sports’ Keith Downie believes Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier are going nowhere over the final week of the transfer window – but Miguel Almiron could depart if the right offer arrives from Saudi Arabia.

He reveals that the ‘noises from within the club over the past 24-48 hours’ say Wilson and Trippier will NOT be sold. However, he adds that the same message has not come back on Almiron; who is the most likely player to depart to help ease our FFP issues.

It’s thought we would not have time to replace Wilson – our only out and out striker behind Alexander Isak – with he and Trippier big voices in the dressing room and key senior players.

As for Almiron, it’s thought he could leave for Al-Shabab if a suitable offer arrived from the Saudi Pro League. Talks have been confirmed over a move to the Middle East for the 29-year-old winger, but it’s not yet clear if that one will progress.

Sky Sports add that we are likely to pursue a midfielder if Almiron is moved on, while The Telegraph report that Morgan Gibbs-White and Amadou Onana are high on our wanted list.

Speaking outside St James’ Park this morning, Downie also said this on Trippier:

“This one (Trippier) hasn’t really moved too much since the weekend when we brought you the news Newcastle had rejected an approach. Kieran Trippier without a doubt was flattered by the move and he was open to hearing what they had to say.

“But I think when Newcastle realised what Bayern were offering was a permanent transfer or a loan deal they realised that this was a deal they did not want to accept and Trippier is now most likely to remain a Newcastle United player certainly until the summer, Eddie Howe wants to keep one of his talisman. The noises coming from Newcastle over the last 24 hours are that he will not be sold for any price.”

  1. Obvious, if the money was right I’m sure we’d sell all three but the fact is it won’t be. Anyone would be silly to pay 20 mil for Wilson or trips and surely no non state owned Saudi side is going to be splashing cash on Almiron.
