Newcastle receive surprise news and early fitness boost ahead of Aston Villa clash

According to reports, Nick Pope is on track to return ahead of schedule from a shoulder injury, while Miguel Almiron has been passed fit for tonight’s trip to Aston Villa.

The Times reveal that Pope is on course to return in six weeks, meaning he could make his comeback in March despite initial suggestions he’d be missing until April following surgery on his dislocated shoulder.

This is not only a huge boost for Eddie Howe, who could have his No 1 back for the final stretch of the 2023/24 season, but will boost his hopes of earning a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s European Championships.

As for Miguel Almiron, The Mail’s Craig Hope revealed that the 29-year-ol resume first-team training on Monday and will return to our squad for tonight’s 8.15pm kick off at Villa Park.

Miggy missed Saturday’s FA Cup win over Fulham due to illness and has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, but it was reported last night that Al-Shabab have failed to reach an agreement ahead of their transfer deadline today.
