“Newcastle are going” – Toon officials traveling to see winger with £12m release clause

Newcastle scouts will travel to watch young Boca Juniors winger Kevin Zenón this weekend, according to reports in Argentina.

Argentinian journalist Martín Costa has claimed that Toon officials are expected to watch Zenón, who only joined Boca this January, in the forthcoming Superclasico match between Boca and River Plate this week.

“There will be people from Newcastle who are going to go watch Zenón,” Costa told Radio Continental.

“The interest is there, they are going to see him and if he convinces them we will see what happens in the middle of the year. The clause is $15m.”

Zenón has featured six times for Boca since joining the club and has featured on the left and right wings. He has one goal and one assist in that time.

Boca signed the Argentinian in January 2024 from Club Atlético Union, but a release clause of $15m (around £12m) is believed to be present in his contract.

With Eddie Howe’s Mags looking for cheaper options because of FFP restrictions, Zenón could be a name to watch out for especially as Howe is keen on adding more dynamism to his side.

It comes as Ben Jacobs suggested that Newcastle remained in discussions with Al-Shabab over a possible move for Miggy Almiron – who was linked with a £30m move to Saudi Arabia in the January window.

Could Howe be about to replace one versatile South American forward with another?
