Howe considering new formation and at least two changes at Arsenal – Report

The Mail’s Craig Hope has released an intriguing piece ahead of tonight’s 8pm kick-off at the Emirates Stadium

He reports that a 3-5-2 system has been worked on in training recently, with Eddie Howe considering moving away from his trusted 4-3-3 formation against Mikel Arteta’s in-form Gunners.

If Howe opts to mix things up, Tino Livramento and Kieran Trippier would be the expected wing-back pairing, with Dan Burn slotting into a left-sided centre-back role alongside Sven Botman and Fabian Schar.

In attack, Hope reports that Alexander Isak and Joe Willock were expected to be used from the bench after returning to training just this week, but it’s thought staff were debating on Friday whether to start the Swede.

A lot may depend on Isak’s readiness to start, but it’s interesting to hear we are trialling other formations in training after some have accused Howe of lacking a plan B in recent weeks.

Should we go with a 3-5-2, the team could look something like: Dubravka – Schar, Botman, Burn – Trippier, Longstaff, Bruno, Miley, Livramento – Gordon, Isak.

  1. Would like to see them start 3 5 2 with Barnes and Gordon up top. Hopefully buy us 60 minutes or so where we can then go back to 4 3 3 to finish out the match with fresh subs like Isak, Almiron, Murphy and Willock etc.
