Newcastle in talks to sign Bournemouth star and former Monaco chief discussed – Report

According to The Mail’s Craig Hope, Newcastle are in talks with Lloyd Kelly’s representatives over a potential summer move to St James’ Park.

The versatile Bournemouth defender has entered the final few months of his contract at the Vitality and is on course to leave as a free agent over the summer.

Hope reports that AC Milan and clubs in Germany are also showing real interest in the 25-year-old, but Steve Nickson is ‘pressing ahead with talks’ as Eddie Howe looks to be reunited with the man he brought to the South Coast for £13m almost five years ago.

Kelly has been the Cherries’ club captain for over two years and is comfortable playing at left-back and at centre-back, allowing him to adopt a similar role to Dan Burn in our squad.

Interestingly, the same piece mentions that former Monaco talent-spotter Paul Mitchell has also been ‘spoken about’ regarding the sporting director post vacated by Dan Ashworth, although some behind the scenes belief Nickson could fill that void.

  1. This the kind of thing that scares fans like me, when we hear Lloyd Kelly linked with big money move to Newcastle, knowing Eddie will give £40m for someone like him to play left back
then he will still not use him and stick with Burn.

  2. Scared !! He’s a battle hardened PL club captain who’s versatile and who’s FREE ( Bosman), at the end of the season and is in demand from big clubs in Europe. They won’t be paying £40M for him ! These are the type of squad players you need to replace the likes of Dummett,( who’s been steeling a living in the treatment room for years), to release real money for bigger names.

  3. Don’t be worried.Tottenham,Liverpool and Milan are all supposed to be after him. He’s a good player, centre half and a left back, and fast. He’s out of contract, at the end of the season, so he’ll be for nowt

  4. Don’t know why Newcastle has to keep buying players from Bournemouth
Is there no other Players available to join Newcastle, Eddie determined to bring the rest up here,we have a lot of sick , lame and lazy ones already from Bournemouth, we are supposed to build a fantastic Club to complete in years to come, not from Bournemouth we won’t, my last point is why the supporters have digs at players for having a bad day, first point the finger at the Management, playing players out of position, asking them to do tasks there are used too
