Steve Nickson ‘pushing’ to sign Serie A star and £12m Brazilian offered to Newcastle – Report

According to The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Newcastle United are in the ‘box seat’ to sign Atalanta’s Ederson this summr after talks with the Serie A side in January.

He reports that head of recruitment Steve Nickson has recently spent time pushing for the Brazilian midfielder, holding discussions with the Bergamo club earlier this year in a bid to give Newcastle the upper hand this summer.

Ryder states that we are aware of Atalanta’s demands and the sort of his salary demands, with the 24-year-old one of the top-performing midfielders in Italy this season after some all-action displays and six goals.

Interestingly, the same piece claims that another tough-tackling Brazilian – Vinicious Souza – has been offered to Newcastle ahead of the summer window.

Sheffield United paid £12m to sign the South American last summer and is expected to move on if and when the Blades are relegated. He is represented by the same agency that look after Bruno Guimaraes – Bertolucci Sports – who have ‘good links’ with Nickson after he negotiated a deal for the former Lyon star.

  1. The one on the right is a dead ringer for Bruno.
Get them both in and let Longstaff and Anderson go. Job’s a good ‘un. Possible profit too.
Those two young Brazilians, Bruno, Joelinton, Tonali and little Joe, with the ‘one year on and still improving’ Miley as back up, will sort our midfield for a very long time giving us a lot of rotational quality for when/if we have multiple games to play over a season.
As for Lloyd Kelly. Ok he’s possibly for free but is that the height of our ambition?
These constant links with Bournemouth and Howe (Eddie’s nephew, Kelly and Solanke etc.) are beginning to sound a little like the easy way out of top, expensive recruitment.
