Early boost for Toon as Chelsea confirm triple blow – 10 at risk of missing Monday’s game

Newcastle United may be without Kieran Trippier, Joelinton, Nick Pope and Callum Wilson for Monday’s trip to Chelsea, but the Blues have even bigger problems ahead of next week’s game.

Speaking to the press today, Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Ben Chilwell (knee) and Levi Colwill (toe) look set to miss out after suffering injuries, while Conor Gallagher is an early doubt after a virus has kept him out of training all week.

All three join a growing list of absentees for the Blues, who will already be without Reece James, Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia and Lesley Ugochukwu, while Benoit Badiashile and Carney Chukwuemeka are also doubts having only just resumed light training.

Gallagher would be a big miss after emerging as a key player this season and outshining £200m duo Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez. Issues for Chilwell and Colwill also leave Pochettino with no fit left-back after Ian Maatsen was sent to Borussia Dortmund on loan.

Responding to boos received after their 2-2 draw at Brentford last weekend, Pochettino said: “Nothing to complain or say. We completely understand the situation and frustration. We need to accept.

“We need to try to improve in the way we play and results, and try to change this feeling. We need our fans. Hopefully Monday, the fans will be behind us”.
