Newcastle trigger contract clause and £28m deal “nailed on” – Eddie Howe

Eddie Howe has confirmed that the club have triggered a one-year extension to keep Jamaal Lascelles on Tyneside for the 2024/25 season.

The skipper was due to be out of contract this summer, but the boss has revealed that he’s due to stay for at least another year after an extension clause was activated.

Elsewhere, Howe has revealed that Lewis Hall will be at Newcastle for “many years”, confirming a £28m permanent move is “nailed on” to go through following his loan-to-buy switch from Chelsea last summer.

“He has a contract with us next season”, Howe said on Lascelles, who he described as an “integral” part of his Newcastle United squad.

The terms of Hall’s permanent move have never been clear, but it seems clear he will be staying at St James’ Park despite his lack of game time, with the 19-year-old considered a long-term investment who will come good.

On Hall, Howe said: “I’m preparing for Lewis to be here for many years. I believe in him. He was brought here for the long term. There’s no magic wand — sometimes you just need patience, which I know is a rare commodity.”
