Pep Guardiola talks Bruno Guimaraes, Eddie Howe and Newcastle ahead of Man City tie

Pep Guardiola has been discussing all things Newcastle ahead of our FA Cup quarter-final at the Etihad tonight.

Speaking to the media, he was asked about Bruno Guimaraes, who he describes as an “exceptional midfielder.” The Brazilian was linked with a summer move to the Etihad earlier this week, but Guardiola believes he will be “part of the project for the next years” at Newcastle.

Pep also praised Eddie Howe, believing he’ll “take lessons” from this season and give his team another “tight game” after it took a late City goal to beat us 3-2 at St James’ Park in January.

As for injuries, the Spaniard revealed that Kevin De Bruyne, Ederson and Jack Grealish will all miss tonight’s 5.30pm kick-off.

Pep Guardiola on Bruno Guimaraes:

“He is an exceptional holding midfielder He is aggressive, with the ball or without the ball.

“At set-pieces, he’s aggressive and is a real, complete holding midfielder since being at Lyon and now at a club who want to grow up and up. I am sure he is part of the project for the next years. Definitely.”

Pep Guardiola on Eddie Howe and facing Newcastle:

“He started the club in a level, like us when we begin, we need support from behind, after the manager, then bring the club.

“Eddie has done it. I’m pretty sure they will take lessons for the future to be, every time, closer and closer

“This season and previous ones since Eddie Howe was there and the people from Saudi Arabia took over, it’s always been tight games and we don’t expect anything different.

“We have an incredible chance at home with our people. We need in home games the support of our fans like we had against [Man] United, I don’t remember that environment for a long time.

“Tomorrow isn’t an exception. We need it to reach the semi-final at Wembley again.”

Pep Guardiola on De Bruyne, Ederson and Grealish:

“De Bruyne won’t be ready for Newcastle but he feels good, I’m grateful he can recover for rest of the season”.
“Ederson could be ready after the international break, Grealish is getting better and he’s back in the group”.
