Mag confirms exit plan and reveals preferred destination – “I want to play more”

Newcastle United goalkeeper Loris Karius has confirmed that he would like to leave the club to join a side in Serie A.

The Italian media reported on this earlier in the week, revealing that he’d asked his agency to secure a summer move to Italy, and this has now been confirmed by the player himself.

“I want to play more”, Karius told Gazetta Della Sport. “I would like to sign for an Italian club and I have chosen the agency of Claudio Marchisio to represent me.” he added.

Karius joined the Magpies in 2022 but has only made two appearances in the 2023 Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester United and most recently a 4-1 defeat at Arsenal in February.

The 30-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has spent the majority of his time at the club acting as a third choice keeper behind Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka.

As well as searching for more game time, the German wants the move to Italy to be closer to family who reside there. His partner, Diletta Leotta gave birth to their first child in August 2023. Karius also frequently flies to Italy to be with his family during time off.
