Toon eyeing bargain move for Geordie star wanted by Spurs, Man City and Liverpool

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United had senior scout Mick Tait watching Sunderland sensation Chris Rigg over the weekend.

Lee Ryder reports that the 16-year-old England youth international is a player of ‘big interest’ and could be available for a small compensation package this summer if he fails to sign a professional deal with the Mackems.

Rigg featured for the final 30 minutes of Saturday’s Championship clash at the Stadium of Light, which saw them draw 0-0 with a QPR side that involved former Mags Isaac Hayden and Jack Colback.

The teenager hails from a family of Newcastle fans and is a boyhood Toon supporter himself. He’s made 13 appearances in the Championship this season, scoring once, and represents the Three Lions at U18 level.

The Chronicle report that Man City, Liverpool and Spurs are all keen on the young midfielder, who will be in demand should he reject a new deal on Wearside. However, you’d like to think his Newcastle links along with the recent game time handed to Lewis Miley could give us the edge if a summer move becomes likely.
