Sean Longstaff linked with summer move as Toon face contract dilemma

According to The Mirror, Leeds United are considering a summer move for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff.

They report that the Whites are ‘monitoring’ his situation as they push to seal an immediate return to the Premier League, aware of the fact he’s approaching the final 12 months of his contract on Tyneside.

Daniel Farke’s side currently sit top of the second tier following a 2-0 win over Millwall on Sunday afternoon, leaving them ahead of Leicester on goal difference and one point above Ipswich Town in third.

Eddie Howe revealed last week that Longstaff is managing a niggling ankle injury and playing with injections, but the Geordie midfielder has struggled for form this season, looking slow, ponderous and lacking in quality.

His contract situation and poor displays have left the club with a big decision to make this summer, especially if Leeds are keen. Do we cash in while we can – he’d leave on a free next summer as things stand – or hand him a new contract?

  1. Definitely cash in if we can, if we are to push on, we need a stronger DM than what Longstaff can offer at his peak. Not sure what options there are in terms of player plus cash, would Gnoto would be a positive addition to our squad??

  2. If Longstaff has been struggling with an injury this season think the stick he’s been getting is shocking wasn’t that last season and if fans are saying sell him why aren’t the same fans calling out Jolinton who let’s be honest has struggled at times for his best form this season so come lets be fair and consistent as fans call Longstaff you call jolinton almiron Wilson and some others who haven’t hit there best form this season
