According to The Mail, Newcastle United are keeping a close eye on Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo ahead of the summer transfer window.
Chief reporter Sami Mokbel claims Newcastle are ‘monitoring’ the Brazilian’s progress along with Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
It’s been a tough season for Forest, who have slipped into the bottom three following Monday’s four-point deduction for breaching financial rules, but Murillo has earned rave reviews since sealing a £15m move from Corinthians last summer.
The 21-year-old has often impressed me when I’ve watched them this season, showing an impressive turn of pace, power and composure on the ball. Our current back line is lacking athleticism and a turn of speed, so Murillo would certainly fit the bill in that sense.
As a left-footed centre-back, it makes you wonder if the club see him as a similar profile to Lloyd Kelly; the Bournemouth defender who has also been looked as a potential upgrade on Dan Burn.
It’s been reported that Nottingham Forest must raise around £30m profit before the end of June to stay in line with FFP regulations, so it’ll be interesting to see if we do up our interest in Murillo or fellow target Morgan Gibbs-White, whether the Reds stay up or not.
