Dan Ashworth persuades Man Utd to pursue £65m Newcastle target – Report

It looks like Newcastle United will face intense competition for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.

The Chronicle revealed that Steve Nickson was at Old Trafford last weekend to watch the highly-rated centre-back and FootballTransfers have already reported that Eddie Howe is a huge fan of the 21-year-old.

However, it’s believed Dan Ashworth is now pushing Man Utd to make a summer move for the Carlisle-born defender after previously recommending him during his time on Tyneside

FootballTransfers’ Jacque Talbot reports that our former sporting director has advised the Red Devils to move swiftly for the Toffees star, believing a deal in the region of £65m could be agreed now Everton must secure a big sale to help them stay within Profit and Sustainability Regulations.

Branthwaite has been reunited with former teammate Anthony Gordon at St George’s Park this week, with the pair handed their first call-ups to the England senior side ahead of friendlies with Brazil and Belgium over the next week.

He’d be a superb signing and looks to be one of the top young defenders in the country, but it looks like we might’ve missed the boat based on his ever-increasing price tag and the number of clubs now vying for his signature.

  1. This has to be rubbish. He cannot talk to Manure while still employed by us. Otherwise he and manure are in breach of contract and can be sued. Press speculation, or sh.it stirring … nothing more

  2. This gardening leave is nonsense, what’s to stop him talking to anyone via an intermediary or anything else.

  4. This is clearly a load of ballocks cause he’s still under contract by Newcastle. He’s not a loud to talk to anyone about transfers otherwise it’s breach of his contract

  5. Called it when he was first put on gardening leave that the gutter press would start this rubbish saying anyone Man U go for or sign will be because Ashworth told them and they would beat us too it.
Will say it’s earlier than I thought it would be but as others have said it’s utter Bo##ocks

Court action, ruined reputation, sanctions to name a few if he’s found out to have done so.
He might be many things but I doubt he would do anything of the sort whilst employed by us, remember he informed the club he had been approached so there is some integrity there.
Unlike Ratcliffe who did his approach work in the press and not through official channels when he spoke to Ashworth, which shows what a weasel and a horrible underhanded c##t he is.

  7. If there is ANY proof of this Newcastle should sue them both.
Ashworth works for Newcastle United and as such is being paid by them.

ANY discussion with Man U , particularly ref players we are tracking should be net law suits against both.
