Steve Nickson watching three centre-backs ahead of summer transfer window – Report

The Chronicle have revealed three players on Newcastle’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window, with centre-backs set to be a key area of focus following Sven Botman’s serious knee injury.

Head of recruitment Steve Nickson has been taking a close look at Jarrad Branthwaite and was in the stands at Old Trafford earlier this month to watch the 21-year-old in action for Everton. However, the England international currently away with Anthony Gordon is expected to demand huge money.

Lee Ryder reveals that Nickson is also tracking Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande; the 20-year-old Ivory coast star who is expected to leave the Portuguese giants this summer.

Nottingham Forest’s Murillo is also mentioned. It’s believed Nickson has sent fellow scout Mick Tait to watch the Brazilian at the City Ground this season, with the 21-year-old impressing several talent spotters on the circuit after an impressive first season in the Premier League.

Like Branthwaite, the former former Corinthians talent is left-footed and could fill in while Botman is absent. With Forest needing to sell for financial reasons, he could be available this summer; whether the Reds survive or not.
