Surprise name selected as Toon stars reveal toughest teammate to face in training

Jamaal Lascelles and Tino Livramento have both named Emil Krafth as the toughest player to get past in training during a teammates quiz for NUFC TV this week.

Speaking from the club’s Benton base, they described the Swede as a ‘ridiculous’ one-vs-one defender and both selected the 29-year-old when asked to name the ‘hardest to play against in training.’

Krafth signed a contract extension at St James’ Park last month, keeping him on Tyneside for another season following his full recovery from a serious ACL injury.

He’s currently third in the pecking order at right-back and has struggled for game time this season, but he’s rarely let us down when he’s played – he helped us to clean sheets in 3-0 wins over Man Utd and Fulham – and is clearly rated highly by his teammates.

The teammates quiz is good fun and can be watched in full below, as Lascelles, Livramento, Botman and Isak cover everything from the strongest in the gym, fastest, messiest in the changing room, biggest appetite and the toughest opponent in training:

  1. I remember a couple of years ago when we all thought Big Joe was a flop, but all the lads were saying he was consistently the best player on the training ground. Look at him now.
It’s amazing the amount of stuff that goes on behind the scenes in training that we’re just not aware of.
