Mike Ashley attempting to sue Newcastle United – The Times

As reported by The Times, Mike Ashley is now suing Newcastle United because of their refusal to allow Sports Direct sell their new Adidas kit for the 2024/25 season.

It’s believed that the former Newcastle owner, who claims that the club are ‘abusing’ their dominant position in the market, is suing for a matter of around £1.5m.

Newcastle have recently terminated their contract with Castore in favour of bringing in Adidas as their new kit manufacturer and now only Adidas, the club and JD Sports will be able to sell the kits.

There is set to be a hearing in April, though documents already submitted suggest that Newcastle have breached the Competitions Act by exclusively working with Sports Direct’s biggest rival.

The club of course will be well prepared for something like this, but it looks like Ashley is not yet finished with Newcastle after the differences he had with Amanda Staveley when selling.

  1. If we’ve learned on thig about Staveley it has to be that she’s not very good at spotting law suits on the horizon.

  2. Greedy man, still trying to get his pound of flesh out the club. That’s ok, let the club sell him a load of shirts then every fan needs to buy their shirts elsewhere. Simples.

  3. IF this is true and we have broken competition laws, we not only need a new sporting director behind the scenes but a new lawyer.
It would give most fans bile if Ashley were to profit in anyway from NUFC through legal action.

  4. Sell him as many shirts as he’s prepared to pay for, up front.
Then simply don’t buy kit from SD – simple really lol
