Eddie Howe hoping for triple boost ahead of crucial West Ham clash

Newcastle United are expected to have three players back for our Premier League clash with West Ham a week tomorrow.

Kieran Trippier, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento all missed our final game before the international break – a 2-0 defeat to Man City in the FA Cup – but all three are on course to return for next weekend’s big game at St James’ Park.

Trippier hasn’t featured since our 3-0 win over Wolves, where he was forced off in the second half with a calf issue. However, he’s on track to return against the Hammers.

Barnes missed out at Man City for precautionary reasons and was ‘back on the grass’ in the days leading up to the game. He’ll benefit from training during our warm-weather trip to Dubai and should be back in the squad next Saturday.

Livramento missed the quarter-final clash after picking up an ankle issue in our 3-2 defeat to Chelsea, but Howe said “we don’t think it’s serious” when speaking to the press after the match.

Sean Longstaff will also benefit from the break, as the midfielder has been playing with injections after struggling to shake off a long-term ankle issue picked up in last season’s 4-1 win at Everton.

Joelinton, Nick Pope and Callum Wilson remain absent, but Howe recently revealed that our No1 is targeting a return at the end of April.

For David Moyes, holding midfielder Edson Alvarez has already been ruled out of the game, with the Mexican facing a two-match ban after picking up his 10th booking of the season last weekend.

  1. It’s a worry when we are told “we don’t think the injury is serious” especially with our track record, never known anything like it.
