Dubravka disaster, Gordon’s big moment vs Bruno and Kuol scores – International round-up

It was a busy Saturday for several of our international stars, featuring goals, unwanted records and a first senior start.

Anthony Gordon was handed a start by Gareth Southgate at Wembley, playing against a Brazil side that featured fellow Mag Bruno Guimaraes.

England fell to a 1-0 defeat thanks to Endrick’s second-half winner, but Gordon did himself proud. In an otherwise flat display from the Three Lions, the winger offered energy at both ends, was positive in possession, looked a threat and used the ball well.

Martin Dubravka went into the record books for all the wrong reasons, conceding the fastest goal in international football history as Christoph Baumgartner scored SIX seconds in to Slovkia’s 2-0 defeat to Austria. It was awful defending, but the Toon stopper has been criticised for taking too long to get down to the low shot.

In better news, Garang Kuol – currently on loan with Dutch side FC Volendam – scored from the spot in Australia’s U23’s WAFF Semi-final win against Egypt.

Elsewhere, Fabian Schar impressed for Switzerland in a 0-0 draw with Denmark, playing the full game and being named player of the match. As for Alexander Isak and Emil Krafth, the pair had a tough time on Thursday night as Jon Dahl Tomasson’s Sweden were battered 5-2 by Roberto Martinez’s Portugal.
