Newcastle suffer new injury during international break – Early fears player is out for the season

Newcastle United have been dealt yet another injury blow, with Lewis Miley the latest Mag to pick up a problem.

The 17-year-old has picked up a back injury on England U20s duty and will hsbe a scan on his return to Tyneside.

The early signs suggested he could be missing for around six weeks, but The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards reveals that there’s fears he may not play again this season.

We won’t know the full extent until scan results come back, but the club will be very mindful of rushing young player back from such an injury when he’s still growing.

It’s believed club staff have been wary of his workload – this may explain why Sean Longstaff has played with a knock ahead of him in recent weeks – but he’s generally played a lot football for his age due to our injury crisis.

News of Miley’s injury follows confirmation last week that Sven Botman will be out for six to nine months after surgery on his ACL, while Joelinton, Callum Wilson, Nick Pope and Sandro Tonali remain unavailable through injury or suspension.

In better news, there’s a chance Kieran Trippier, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento return against West Ham this weekend after missing our FA Cup defeat at Man City.

  1. This just isn’t normal, you couldn’t make it up.
Players must be being put under an enormous amount of pressure in various area’s l to pick up the injuries we have had.

  2. Could have nothing to do with us considering it happened with England and could explain why club were trying to protect him and keep playing longstaff some of our fickle short memory fans should think about that before they start slagging people off

It is our problem! If Longstaff was playing with injections to protect Miley why was he allowed to join up with the International squad where he sustained the injury.
I think sometimes too much is expected of players by both club and country, after all they are only human.
