Newcastle confirm another devastating injury – Official statement on Jamaal Lascelles

Newcastle United have announced that Jamaal Lascelles suffered a ruptured ACL injury in yesterday’s 4-3 win over West Ham.

Like Sven Botman, who went under the knife earlier this week, the skipper is set for surgery and expected to miss the next six-to-nine months, handing us yet another devastating injury setback.

A club statement said: ‘Newcastle United can confirm that club captain Jamaal Lascelles suffered a rupture to the ACL in his right knee during Saturday’s victory over West Ham United.

‘After seeing a specialist consultant, he is expected to undergo surgery next week and will be out for six-to-nine months. Everyone at Newcastle United extends their best wishes to Jamaal for a full and speedy recovery.’

A huge blow for the player himself, who would have been hoping to impress in Botman’s absence, and another injury blow heading into the final nine games of the season.

Lascelles recently signed a one-year extension to keep him on Tyneside, but will do well to player again this year as he prepares for surgery and a long period of rehab.
