Newcastle set to launch summer move for frustrated Arsenal star – Report

According to The Mail, Newcastle United have reignited their interest in Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale ahead of the summer transfer window.

They report that Eddie Howe is a ‘big admirer’ of the 25-year-old after bringing him to Bournemouth during his time with the Cherries and the player himself is thought to be frustrated by his lack of game time after losing his place to David Raya.

It’s believed Newcastle are also in the market for a younger shot-stopper this summer, with Martin Dubravka 35 and injured number one Nick Pope about to turn 32 this month.

A lot could depend on Arsenal’s asking price, as Newcastle will not overpay for a goalkeeper who is likely to be competing with Pope should he sign at St James’ Park. Even then, he’d surely be battling for his place at Newcastle and would hardly walk into our team when Pope is fit.

Dubravka could well leave once he loses his place and Loris Karius is pursuing a move to Italy, but there’s plenty of other gaps to fill in our squad, with centre-back looking weak following ACL injuries to Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles. A holding midfielder is also needed, as is an upgrade on the right wing and another option up front as Callum Wilson – out of contract next summer – continues to struggle with injuries.
