Newcastle suspensions – Deadline approaching as £80m duo near cut-off point

Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon have two games left to avoid a two-game suspension for 10 yellow cards.

Bruno has been walking a tightrope for months after racking up nine bookings in his first 20 league appearances this season, while Gordon is currently on eight.

Any player who receives 10 bookings up to and including a club’s 32nd game of the Premier League season will receive a two-match ban. Saturday’s trip to Fulham is our 31st game and our home clash with Spurs our 32nd.

So, Gordon will avoid any two-game ban for an accumulation of yellows if he stays out of the referee’s book this weekend, while Bruno must avoid a caution against both Fulham and Spurs.

Get past next weekend’s cut-off points at home to Tottenham and our £80m duo will be free to play in our final six games against Crystal Palace, Sheffield United, Burnley, Brighton, Brentford and the soon-to-be rearranged trip to Man Utd.

With 10 players absent through injury for last night’s 1-1 draw with Everton and several of those likely to miss the vast majority of our remaining games, let’s hope both can come through our next two unscathed!
