Newcastle contact Bayern Munich loanee over potential move to Tyneside – Report

According to reports in Germany, Newcastle United have been in contact with Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nubel over a potential move to St James’ Park.

This comes from Sport Bild, who claim that Toon officials have reached out to the player himself and his representatives.

The 27-year-old is currently on loan at VfB Stuttgart and has been hugely impressive, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Lukas Hradecky the only Bundesliga keeper to have kept more clean sheets than the German.

Bild report that he’s still considered a potential long-term successor to Manuel Neuer – Bayern’s current number one – but he’s out of contract next summer and is yet to sign a new deal, leaving his future up in the air as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.

With Loris Karius expected to leave and 35-year-old Martin Dubravka likely to want regular first team minutes when Nick Pope returns from a shoulder injury, we’re likely to be in the market for another goalkeeper this summer; ideally a younger option who can compete with Pope, who’ll turn 32 later this month.
