Newcastle considering free agent move for Leicester City star – Report

Another day, another player linked with a potential summer move to Newcastle United. Today is the turn of Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi.

According to HITC, Newcastle are considering a move for the 27-year-old midfielder, who is due to leave the King Power Stadium on a free transfer, as things stand.

Ndidi is out of contract this summer and unlikely to sign a new deal. It’s reported that Newcastle, Aston Villa, Brighton, Spurs and Wolves are all monitoring his situation.

The Nigerian international stayed with the Foxes following their relegation to the Championship last summer. He’s played 30 times for them this season and is on course to guide them back to the top flight, with Leicester currently top of the second tier and favourites for promotion with six games left to play.

He may be considered a cut-price option who could add to our squad and help us strengthen while working within FFP restrictions, but I’m not sure about this latest transfer link.

Yes, we must manage our spending this summer and have several areas to improve, but I’d expect us to sign a young holding midfielder with potential to grow, not someone who has seen his career go slightly stale over the past few seasons.

  1. He’s a decent option to be fair – he plays a role in midfield that we are lacking at the moment.

If we are looking for midfielders that won’t cost a fortune though (leaving money for more key positions like CB & CF) then I’d go for Hojberg from Spurs – he’d allow us to play Bruno further forward and release Joelinton from some of his defensive duties – plus give our defence a lot more cover.

I’d also go for Tommy Doyle from City on loan at Wolves at the mo.
