Newcastle handed huge suspension boost ahead of Spurs clash – One down, one to go!

Anthony Gordon has escaped the prospect of a two-game ban for an accumulation of yellow cards – and Bruno Guimaraes will be hoping to do the same this week.

Premier League rules state that any player who picks up 10 bookings before the 33rd game of the season will be suspended for two games.

Gordon went into Saturday’s 1-0 win over Fulham on eight yellows, meaning he had to be cautioned at Craven Cottage and in this weekend’s home clash with Spurs (our 32nd game) to face a ban. As he avoided a booking over the weekend, he is now safe.

Bruno avoided a yellow for the 13th game in a row at Fulham, but Tottenham represents the final game where he is at risk. If he is booked against Ange Postecoglou’s side, he’ll be forced to sit out our trip to Crystal Palace and home clash with Sheffield United later this month.

Fingers crossed he doesn’t slip up at the final hurdle – losing Bruno for two games would be a huge blow given our midfield injuries – but it’s great to know Gordon is safe as we head towards the final seven games of 2023/24.
