Toon set for injury boost – Key man could return vs Burnley, Brighton, Man Utd & Brentford

After revealing that Joelinton looks set to sign a new deal at Newcastle United, The Telegraph have issued an update on the Brazilian’s comeback from injury.

Luke Edwards reports that the 27-year-old is making ‘good progress’ following surgery and ‘should be back playing at the start of May.’

Some reported that his season was over when he went under the knife in January, but the midfielder could feature in our final three games of the 2023/24 season based on this scheduled return date.

After our home clash with Sheffield United on Saturday 27th April, our final four games of the season feature Burnley away (4th May), followed by a home clash with Brighton (11th May), a midweek trip to Man Utd (15th May) and Brentford away on the final day of the season, where all 20 clubs play on Sunday 19th May.

With Sandro Tonali missing, Willock struggling with an Achilles issue, Sean Longstaff playing with injections and Lewis Miley managing a back problem, it would be great to have big Joe back for the final few games in our late push for Europe.

Joelinton’s partner posted this photo of the midfielder’s boots on Instagram this week. Covered in mud and clearly worn, it makes you wonder if he’s back on the grass and stepping up his comeback with next month’s return in mind…
