TEAM NEWS: Murphy at full-back and Barnes starts as Howe fields makeshift defence vs Spurs

The team sheets are in ahead of today’s 12.30 kick off at St James’ Park, where Newcastle United take on Tottenham at St James’ Park.

STARTING XI: Dubravka – Murphy, Schar, Burn, Krafth – Longstaff, Bruno, Anderson – Gordon, Isak, Barnes.

Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento are fit enough to make the bench, but that means a full-back pairing of Jacob Murphy and Emil Krafth, with Harvey Barnes returning to the side on the left and Anthony Gordon operating down the right.

Elliot Anderson comes in for another home start, replacing Joe Willock after he was forced off at Fulham with an achilles problem.

As expected, the likes of Pope, Trippier, Botman, Lascelles, Joelinton, Miley, Willock, Almiron, Targett and Wilson all miss out. For Spurs, Richarlison misses out but Son, Maddison, Romero and Porro all start.

A big chance to boost our hopes of a top six finish, as we’d leapfrog Man Utd with a victory. Howay the lads!

  1. Probably due to injuries we have no choice but that defence makes me feel very uncomfortable.
