Some big news has emerged from The Mail’s Craig Hope this afternoon, confirming that Joe Willock will not play again this season.
He reports that the club have decided to give the 24-year-old a period of rest to help him fully recover from a recurring Achilles issue that saw him limp off in our 1-0 win over Fulham earlier this month.
After several months on the sidelines, the midfielder returned to action in February. However, it’s thought that he’s still being playing with pain and will sit out our final six games of the season against Crystal Palace, Sheffield United, Burnley, Brighton, Man Utd and Brentford.
It’s a real shame for Willock, who will end the 2023/24 season with just nine starts to his name after hamstring and Achilles issues. The latter has been a niggling issue and Hope reports that he’ll now undergo a programme rest and strength work to ensure he’s fully fit for pre-season.
Thankfully, Elliot Anderson has stepped in superbly in his absence, with Joelinton also aiming to be back in the coming weeks.

Despite his problems Elliot Anderson has been one of the main pluses for us this season reinforcing the belief we had in him.
