Unbelievable Newcastle United stats – A few of these may shock you…

The dust has settled following Saturday’s stunning 4-0 win over Spurs and we have picked out a series of incredible stats that feel well worth sharing.

  • In the 136 minutes Gordon, Isak and Barnes have played together in the Premier League this season, Newcastle have scored eight goals – one every 17 minutes – and conceded none. Three goals for Isak, two for Barnes, one for Gordon. Three assists for Gordon, one for Isak.

This comes from Ben Spratt (@bensprattjourn) on Twitter. Talk about instant impact! It’s clear that’s our best front three on paper and it shows! Let’s hope we can keep them all fit over the run in.

  • Anthony Gordon has become the second player in Premier League history to score against every ‘big six’ club in a season

What a season he’s having. He played a part in three of our four goals on Saturday, has 20 goal involvements for the season, works his socks off, is as versatile as they come and clearly rises to the occasion!

  • We have already score more goals this season (69) than we did last season (68)

Yes, we’ve let in a few too many this term, but this shows how the attacking side of our game is improving. We managed 68 in total across 2022/23 and have already scored 69 goals this season with six games left to play.

  • Newcastle have now scored three more Premier League goals this season than Kevin Keegan’s ‘Entertainers’ did in the whole of 1995-96

Eddie’s Entertainers!

  • Only Arsenal (14) have kept more Premier League clean sheets than Newcastle (10) this season

Defensively we’ve been a few levels below the heights we reached last season. We conceded 33 over the 2022/23 campaign and have already let in 52 this term, but we’ve still managed more shutouts than every other Premier League side bar Arsenal.

  • We had just 27% possession on Saturday. That’s the second-lowest amount of possession to win by four goals in Premier League history.

Proof that it’s all about what you do with the ball, not how much of it you have. Despite the possession stats, we had 16 corners to their three and almost twice as many shots.

  • Bruno Guimaraes avoided a yellow card in 11 straight Premier League games after picking up NINE in his first 20 appearances this season.

What a way to escape a two-game ban! Considering he’s still played with real passion and intensity, it’s a pretty unbelievable achievement and a huge boost now the 10-yellow cut-off point has passed.

  • Alexander Isak has scored in six-straight Premier League home games; a feat only Alan Shearer, Andy Cole and Les Ferdinand have achieved.
  • Alexander Isak is the first Newcastle player to score 20+ top flight in all competitions since Alan Shearer in 2003/04.

An elite forward who keeps on getting better and better. His pace, quick feet, movement, pressing and ice-cool finishing is a joy to watch. That’s 21 goals for the season, including 17 in just 22 Premier League starts.

  1. The much maligned Benitez made a telling quote that possession is a television audience consumption stat that coaches don’t pay any attention. What managers look for is control and control can come off the ball as well as on it.
