5 Newcastle stars facing ‘uncertain futures’ ahead of June deadline – Report

According to Luke Edwards at The Telegraph, five senior players are facing ‘uncertain futures’ at Newcastle United with the club aware that early sales could be key to boosting our budget.

He reports that Miguel Almiron, Sean Longstaff, Callum Wilson, Martin Dubravka and Matt Targett are all at risk of being sold this summer.

Almiron aside, they are all out of contract in just over 12 months time, meaning this could be our last chance to secure a decent fee in what could be a summer of change at St James’ Park.

The Telegraph report that a host of ins and outs could take place before the end of June; the deadline whereby Premier League clubs must show their accounts to comply with PSR.

Almiron and Wilson have received previous interest from the Saudi Pro League, Dubravka may seek a move once Pope returns and takes back the No 1 spot, Targett has slipped well down the pecking order at left-back and Longstaff could be sold as pure profit as an academy graduate.

The Geordie midfielder has become a valued member of Eddie Howe’s squad, but with Lewis Miley and Elliot Anderson emerging, Sandro Tonali to return in August and Joelinton signing a new deal, he could be one of the squad men sacrificed if sales are needed to help us sign this summer.

  1. That list looks about right except for possibly Dubravka, you could and should add Ritchie and Dummet to that unless they are kept at the club in a different capacity.

  2. Joseph – I think their contracts are up this season, where the list above still have next season with us.

If Dubs is happy staying then yes I’d keep him. I would absolutely keep Longstaff in the squad too – unless we get £20m plus for him.

  3. If we get into Europe I can’t believe Longstaff would be sold, because he’s homegrown at club. We need 4 players homegrown at club to be able to register a full squad for Europe. Right now, that’s Longstaff, Anderson, Miley and Dummett. Lewis Hall will join that list but not for 2 more seasons. On that basis, I’m not even entirely sure we’ll let Dummett go if we qualify for Europe!
