More proof Yankuba Minteh is one of the most exciting young stars in Europe

Yankuba Minteh has been in superb form for Feyenoord, being involved in eight goals (six goals and two assists) in his last eight league appearances for the Dutch giants.

The Newcastle United loanee is up to 10 goals for the season, he’s scored in the Champions League, was Feyenoord’s man of the match in a 6-0 win over Ajax earlier this month and also represented Gambia at the African Cup of Nations earlier this year.

On top of that, a selection of stunning stats have emerged from @DataMB, who reveal how the 19-year-old has been the top-performing young winger in Europe this season.

Based on all U19 wingers across the top seven leagues in Europe, Minteh ranks top for all of the following (per 90):

  • Most goals (10)
  • Most assists (4)
  • Most dribbles
  • Most crosses
  • Most shots
  • Most expected goals
  • Most expected assists
  • Most progressive runs
  • Most accelerations
  • Most touches in the box
  •  Most attacking actions
  • Highest defensive duel %

He has been playing in a strong Feyenoord side currently 2nd in the Eredivisie, but this is more proof that he’s one of the most exciting young wingers on the planet right now.

As DataMB reveal below, he’s also in the 85+ percentile for all seven radar metrics:

  1. You have to love stats, especially the imaginary ones like “expected goals” and expected assists”.

I would have thought that our thrashing of Spurs where they dominated the game with possession and successful passes made might have slowed down the stat-o-holics, but no, they still think they actually mean something.

I agree that some stats are a little bit of a reach, but ‘expected assists’ are hardly imaginary. It shows the number of times he’s set up an opponent, regardless of whether they scored or not, which helps show when he’s been creative but not always been rewarded with the assist.

Either way, there are enough stats in here to suggest he’s a very talented young winger who is having a great season.
