Sky Sports: Newcastle handed major injury boost ahead of final six games of 2023/24

It was a frustrating Tuesday for Newcastle United fans as it was revealed that Joe Willock has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, but there’s good news on the injury front today.

In an update from our Benton base this morning, Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has revealed that Callum Wilson was back in full first-team training this morning after stepping up his comeback from a pectoral injury.

The striker has been missing since suffering a freak injury in February’s 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest. He had surgery on his chest and is hoping to be back in action soon.

It remains to be seen if he’ll be ready for our trip to Crystal Palace a week today, but his return is a welcome boost heading into the final month of the season and will give Eddie Howe another option in attack.

Alexander Isak has been in stunning form, taking his tally for 2023/24 up to 21 goals last weekend. However, the Swede has been our only fit striker and forced to play 90 minutes every game. Wilson’s return could give us another goalscorer off the bench, with the 32-year-old scoring seven times in 16 Premier League outings this season.

See the footage below from Sky Sports, featuring an update from Downie’s on Wilson’s fitness:

  1. He’ll be back for one game and out for 5.
