Yasir Al-Rumayyan set to hold interviews as Newcastle prepare three-man shortlist

There’s been a few more updates on Newcastle’s pursuit of a new sporting director over the weekend, with The Mail and The Telegraph releasing new reports.

Craig Hope reveals that the final phase of interviews is due to take place soon after the club narrowed their search down to a three-man shortlist. He adds that the final stage will see the candidates interviewed by Toon chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan.

The club hired world-renowned recruiters Odgers Berndtson last month to lead the search and it’s thought Paul Mitchell, Benfica’s Rui Pedro Braz and former Roma chief Tiago Pinto have all been spoken to. That said, it’s unclear if they have all made Newcastle’s final shortlist.

The Telegraph report that the club would ideally like Dan Ashworth’s replacement to have Premier League experience, which could give the likes of Mitchell an advantage following his impressive work at Tottenham and Southampton.

Whoever arrives, it’s encouraging to hear we are edging closer to what promises to be a vital appointment ahead of a huge summer for the club.
