Newcastle identify four summer targets, striker wanted and appointment close – Report

Mark Douglas has shared an update on Newcastle’s summer transfer plans and our ongoing search for a new sporting director.

In his latest piece for the i, he names four Premier League players who feature on our current wishlist; Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White, Fulham centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo and versatile Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly.

He reports that we’re also in the market for a ‘versatile forward’ able to compete with Alexander Isak, with Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron facing uncertain futures.

Douglas adds that we are close to securing Dan Ashworth’s replacement, with a new director of football expected to be in place by the end of the season. It’s believed Paul Mitchell is a ‘leading contender’ along with Benfica’s Rui Pedro Braz and Tiago Pinto, formerly of Roma, but Paolo Maldini and Hugo Viana have also been contacted by recruitment firm Odgers Berndtson.

Newcastle plan to appoint a new director of football before agreeing on a compensation package that allows Dan Ashworth to start work at Man Utd. The club also want the new man in place to support what promises to be a busy start to the summer transfer window, with the final day of the financial year – 30 June – now viewed as a mini deadline for clubs needing to comply with the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability regulations.
