Sean Longstaff linked with summer exit – Two clubs keen and Newcastle price tag mooted

According to The Mirror, Leicester and Leeds are showing an interest in Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff.

They report that both promotion-chasing clubs are keen on the 26-year-old, although it’s believed any move could hinge on a return to the Premier League.

Leicester are currently top of the Championship with three games to play and Leeds will move second and leapfrog Ipswich if they win in Middlesbrough tonight.

Longstaff has become a key squad player under Eddie Howe and has barely missed a minute of action since the turn of the year. However, he is one of several senior players approaching the final 12 months of his contract at the club.

The Mirror claim Newcastle ‘could be tempted’ to cash in if an offer in the region of £15-20m comes our way this summer, with player sales set to be key in our bid to work within FFP restrictions. Selling a home grown player is also considered pure profit and aids with PSR.

His first team will surely be taken by Sandro Tonali once the Italian returns from a ban in August and the emergence of Lewis Miley – who tends to operate as a right-sided central midfielder – could also open the door to Longstaff’s sale.

  1. The mirror believes, what planet do these so called reporters live on, always trying to invent stories these days with no rational thinking. Actually this sounds like a SMB
