Bruno Guimaraes deadline goes public – A genius move from Newcastle United?

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bruno Guimaraes’ £100m release clause will only be active for one month at the very start of the summer transfer window.

He’s revealed that the clause will only be valid from the final week of May to the start of the last week in June. After that window has passed, Newcastle will have ‘total control of price and potential negotiations’ across July and August.

The club have been very clever in their negotiations around Bruno’s release clause, which was added into a new deal signed by the Brazilian last year. Not only would we have plenty of time to source a replacement should he leave early in the window, the £100m received would arrive just before the PSR cut-off on June 30th, giving us freedom to spend for the following financial year.

Of course, in an ideal world the Brazilian midfielder would stay in the North East for many years to come, but the terms of his release clause seem to work in our favour whatever happens.

There are few clubs who’d commit to a £100m deal so early in the window, especially with the PSR deadline right around the corner, so this feels like good news in our bid to keep the 26-year-old on Tyneside for at least another season.

  1. Love it!
    We have to keep him!
    He wants to stay!
    He’s very happy here!
If he goes it will cost the buyers 100 million! Because we’re clever!
But we have to keep him.
He says he’s very happy here!
He’s bought a house! (maybe it was a horse!)
If we do sell him the get out clause is only valid in June! Because we’re clever!
Then we can charge whatever we want. Because we’re clever!
And we get the money in June – because we’re clever!

Hang on. What happened to “he’s staying”?
