Newcastle’s pre-season plans – Likely destination, two games on offer and £3m boost

According to Craig Hope at the Daily Mail, a pre-season tour of Japan is in the offing for Newcastle United, though not everyone is currently in agreement.

Games against Yokohama F Marinos and Urawa Red Diamonds have been suggested as the club search for an ideal destination to prepare for the 2024/25 campaign.

There are some who believe that last summer’s tour of the United States had left the squad a little worn out before the season had started due to the travel, heat and intensity of games played.

You’d imagine travelling all the way over to Japan would have a similar impact, though they may be planning ways to mitigate the problems they encountered last year.

Newcastle are also exploring the ideal of staying in Europe and setting up camp in Germany, but they are yet to come to an agreement as their palms continue to take shape over these next few weeks.

Elsewhere, reports have suggested that the Sela Cup is likely to take place at St James’ Park once again. Last year, Nice, Villarreal and Fiorentina all took part alongside Eddie Howe’s Mags the weekend before the season kicked off.

The club will also take part in a post-season friendly against Spurs in Australia at the end of May. It’s a controversial move that hasn’t gone own well with some of the players, but will earn the club around £3m.
