New top-six odds released as Newcastle and Chelsea pile pressure on Man Utd

It’s been a brilliant few days for Newcastle United and Chelsea, who have piled the pressure on Man Utd after big wins over the weekend.

Newcastle (56 points) leapfrogged the Red Devils following Saturday’s 4-1 win at Burnley, while Chelsea (54 points) also went above Ten Hag’s side on goal difference after they battered West Ham 5-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Man Utd (54 points) have slipped to 8th but are still to play this Bank Holiday weekend. They travel to Crystal Palace on Monday night knowing a result is needed to move back above Chelsea and a win is required to reclaim 6th and go back ahead of us.

Here’s how the bookies see it heading into their trip to Selhurst Park, with Newcastle now the 4/6 favourites  to finish sixth heading into our final three games of the 2023/24 season:

  1. Newcastle – 4/6 (1.67)
  2. Man Utd – 11/4 (3.75)
  3. Chelsea – 3/1 (4.00)

Here’s the remaining fixtures for all three and fifth place Spurs, followed by the updated Premier League table (top 12):

Spurs – Burnley (H), Man City (H), Sheffield United (A)
Newcastle – Brighton (H), Man Utd (A), Brentford (A)
Man Utd – Crystal Palace (A), Arsenal (H), Newcastle (H), Brighton (A)
Chelsea – Nottingham Forest (A), Brighton (A), Bournemouth (H)

  1. Aha .. finally someone has woken up to the threat Chelsea bring. The most consistent of the three right now and easiest run in, they’ll finish above at least one of the toon or manc mackems.
The toon need 7 from 9 in the last three games for Europe .. tough ask

I’ve always been wary tbh. Very good players, a top manager, a game in hand (which they won last week) and good fixtures. They were always going to be a huge threat if things clicked. I was shocked so many wanted them to beat Spurs last week!
