Huge swing in top-six race – Bookies release new odds after Man Utd are battered 4-0

Chelsea’s big win aside, it’s been a brilliant bank holiday weekend for Newcastle United’s European hopes, with our 4-1 victory at Burnley followed by Man Utd’s 4-0 battering at Crystal Palace last night.

That result leaves Ten Hag’s side 8th and two points behind Newcastle (6th). They face title-chasing Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday, while we take on a Brighton side who’ve won one of their last 10 away games, losing seven in the process.

The bookies have reacted to a big weekend in the top-six race and now have us as firm favourites to seal sixth spot. We’re priced at 2/5, while Man Utd have dropped to 9/1. Chelsea meanwhile sits at 9/4, with the Blues picking up form but facing tricky trips to Nottingham Forest and Brighton in their next two games.

Here’s the current top-six odds (via Sky Bet) following Man Utd’s heavy defeat last night, followed by each of the three side’s remaining fixtures and an updated Premier League table (top 12):

  1. Newcastle – 2/5 (1.40)
  2. Chelsea – 9/4 (3.25)
  3. Man Utd – 9/1 (10.00)
Newcastle – Brighton (H), Man Utd (A), Brentford (A)
Man Utd – Arsenal (H), Newcastle (H), Brighton (A)
Chelsea – Nottingham Forest (A), Brighton (A), Bournemouth (H)
