Sources at Newcastle respond to Lloyd Kelly claims – Club eyeing another deal instead?

According to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, sources at the club have played down reports that Newcastle United have struck a deal to sign Lloyd Kelly.

Last night, Foot Mercato reporter Santi Aouna released an exclusive claiming a ‘verbal agreement’ had been reached to secure the Bournemouth defender, but it sounds like he may have jumped the gun.

In fact, Edwards reports that it’s Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo who is the more likely to sign, as things stand. It’s his understanding that the 26-year-old is currently deemed the ‘more attractive’ free agent.

The club value his ability to play on the right side of defence, with competition for Fabian Schar and cover for the injured Jamaal Lascelles considered one of our top priority.

Kelly would be brought in to provide cover for the injured Sven Botman and offer another option at left-back, but this is seen as less of a priority following Lewis Hall’s form and Dan Burn’s impressive display’s in Botman’s absence.

Who knows, the club may have briefed the local media to quieten those Kelly claims out of respect to Bournemouth, but The Telegraph seem to think Tosin is the more likely to sign.

  1. Believe nothing till the player is holding up the shirt , ignore the agent’s, pundits and so called journalists and media experts. Tosh.

  2. You could fill at least a hundred skips with all the speculative nonsense that will be written between now and the end of the transfer window.

  3. If you’re an agent, there’s no better way to drum up interest in your client than releasing a fake story to a gullible journalist (maybe one in another country?) to say he’s about to sign for a wealthy club. Anyone else coming in feels like they have to make a big offer to gazump the wealthy club that probably haven’t even made an offer. It guarantees maximum interest from potential suitors and a good salary/signing on fee/agent fee.

  4. Can’t disagree with comments above .. and yet here we all are. Fun isn’t it😁
