Alexander Isak has been nominated for the Premier League’s player and young player of the season awards for 2023/24 after another stunning campaign at St James’ Park (vote here!)
The striker hit the 20-goal mark in last weekend’s 4-1 win over Burnley and has the second best minutes-per-goal rate in the league, behind only Erling Haaland.
He’s up against some heavyweight competition for the both awards, with Haaland, Phil Foden, Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Ollie Watkins and Cole Palmer, Virgil Van Dijk and William Saliba for player of the season.
For the young player prize, Haaland is also nominated alongside Foden, Man Utd’s Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka, Saliba and Spurs left-back Destiny Udogie. Surprisingly, there’s no place for Anthony Gordon on the eight-man shortlist.
It seems incredibly harsh that Gordon hasn’t even been shortlisted, but it’s a well deserved reward for Isak; easily the best striker we’ve seen on Tyneside since Alan Shearer.
