5 players leave Newcastle camp as Howe turns to youngsters for A-League All stars clash

Eddie Howe has confirmed that this morning’s 8:05am clash with the A-League All Stars will feature a host of Newcastle youngsters in the final game of our Australia trip.

STARTING XI: Gillespie – Ashby, Murphy, Thompson, Charlton – White, Turner-Cooke, Hernes – Diallo, Parkinson, Kuol SUBS: Harris, Trippier, Hall, Anderson, De Bolle, Stanton.

A host of first-team stars featured in Wednesday’s shootout win over Spurs, where Alexander Isak leveled before Mark Gillespie was the unlikely hero in a 5-4 victory on penalties. However, it’s emerged that five senior players have left our camp Down Under.

Bruno Guimaraes and Miguel Almiron have departed as they prepare for Copa America (starting on June 20th) with Brazil and Paraguay. Joelinton has also returned to his homeland to marry his partner Thays Gondim. Congratulations in advance, big Joe!

Alexander Isak and Emil Krafth have also been given some additional time off after being called up to the Sweden squad for early-June friendlies against Denmark and Serbia; two sides preparing for Euro 2024.

The likes of Pope, Burn, Dummett, J.Murphy, Ritchie, Barnes and Wilson are still in Australia but have not been named in the squad for today’s game with the A-League All Stars.

Asked about today’s game and the side we’re likely to see, Howe said: “It will be a younger team for us. A lot of our international players will now move back to their various countries where they are going to prepare for the Euros and different competitions. We’ll play a younger team so the majority of the experienced players will have finished their seasons.”
