Newcastle miss out on Europe as Man Utd shock Man City in FA Cup final

In a result that sums up Newcastle United’s 2023/24, Man Utd have beaten Man City 2-1 in the FA Cup final to end our hopes of competing in Europe next season.

As we all knew heading into today’s 3pm kick-off, Newcastle needed a Man City win to ensure our seventh-placed finish saw us qualify for the Europa Conference League.

However, Erik ten Hag’s side pulled off a shock win at Wembley, meaning they qualify for the Europa League alongside Tottenham, with sixth-place Chelsea moving into the Europa Conference League.

Pep Guardiola’s title-winning side hadn’t lost in any of their last 35 games and were facing an out-of-sorts Man Utd side who ended last season in eighth. But it sums up our season and a campaign full of setbacks that we’ve now missed out at the final hurdle.

A tough one to swallow, meaning we won’t be playing European football next season, but we have ourselves to blame after failing to beat Brighton (1-1) and Man Utd (2-3) in two of our final three games.

  1. We finished above Man Utd this season despite all our injuries & we will again next season.

Enjoy today Man Utd, you deserve it coz you were the better team on the day 🤷🏼‍♂️ – but the club is still a mess.

Either they keep ten Hag or sack him & get the Ipswich manager 😂.

My prediction – they don’t win the European cup & they don’t finish in the top 6 again next season 🔮

  2. The big downsides are do we attract the players we want and do we keep the ones we need?

  3. Joseph – 100% we do mate. Our recruitment has been pretty much first class since the new owners came in. The players we have seem settled & happy enough to give us next season.

We get Kelly & Tosin over the line & get rid of some fringe players before focusing on the players we need to buy.

The only thing this means is we probably keep hold of Longstaff & Murphy – but that’s not the end of the world.

I think our chances of making top 4 next season has just gone up massively if anything mate 👌🏼

I think we will get Kelly but not so sure on Tosin now.
I agree we can have a good go at the top 4 again but we need at least four on top of Kelly.

  5. No Europe, shame. At least they got a trip to Australia albeit they got beaten 8-0.

  6. Conference league has no appeal to me. We are going to have a storming league season next year. Intensity is our identity

  7. We still finished above them and no Europa conference games isn’t the end of the world, it doesn’t pay much and it can only benefit our league form hopefully.
As for attracting players now, well, they either want to come or they don’t. Don’t want anyone at the club who isn’t fully committed to our project. Just keep our best players if possible.

And joker Jim wants the tax payers to build your new stadium, poor old paupers that you are.

  11. 50 of your oversized ‘kids’ refused to stop chanting your European credentials after being welcomed into a bar (as they’d been thrown out of another local) where a guy was paying good money to have a decent 60th birthday evening – we asked and asked kindly but had to close the bar. So thanks to Man U you’re stuck at home. How satisfying. You’ve no hope of a top 4 btw. 👈
