Newcastle preparing to sell £45m trio after Saudi talks and Leeds interest – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are looking to sell Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron and Martin Dubravka this summer, with Sean Longstaff also facing an uncertain future after early interest from Leeds.

Luke Edwards reports that Newcastle must sell wisely to help fund a number of ambitious signings this summer, but have no plans to lose star duo Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak.

It’s believed unnamed clubs in Saudi Arabia have already held ‘tentative talks’ over a move for Wilson, who is 32, out of contract next summer and on big wages for a player who has spent a big chunk of the 2023/24 season out inured.

Edwards feels the ‘writing is on the wall’ for Almiron, who ‘almost’ left for Al-Shabab in January. He turned 30 this year and, like Longstaff, any sale would generate ‘pure profit’ in PSR terms. Longstaff has one year left on his current deal, making Leeds a potential one to watch if they win Sunday’s play-off final.

Dubravka is expected to leave as part of a goalkeeper overhaul this summer, as he’s struggled to impress in Nick Pope’s absence and would fall further down the pecking order if Giorgi Mamardashvili or Aaron Ramsdale sign to compete for the No 1 spot.

  1. I don’t think that Sean has been at his best this season, but that is due to not being fully fit. Would be sad to lose him if it means that Dummett or Ritchie have to stay to cover his homegrown slot.
The other three do need replacing

  2. Personally wouldn’t sell Longstaff why sell a local player who still managed to score 9 goals from midfield while playing nowhere near 100% fit

  3. Based on Howe’s comments we’ll find out today if Ritchie / dummett are awarded contracts. They should be offered the clubs warmest thanks for their time here and shown the door irrespective of Europe.

  4. Longstaff a homegrown squad player at best, Ritchie and Dummet just using up room for new players coming in, should have jettisoned the last two last season along with Almiron, Wilson and Murphy.
Taggert should also be moved on with Dubravka who was happy to go to Manure and Wilson’s time is also up as we don’t get enough game time from him and there are others.

  5. Joseph think homegrown squad player at best is harsh with Longstaff if we make Europe Murphy would be decent squad player for the conference league but totally agree regarding Ritchie Dummet Dubravka Wilson Almiron and Targett if we can get decent money for him plus got finally sell Fraser Lewis and Hayden

  6. Don’t Kelly & Tosin count as home grown??

Unless we get a £20m plus offer for Longstaff I’d keep him as a squad player, likewise with Murphy. The others I’m happy to let go.

  7. Sharpy17 the homegrown is local players that is why Dummet got his extension last season for the champions league the 4 were Dummet Longstaff Anderson Miley

  8. Darren – the definition I read was as follows:

Currently, to be classified as homegrown one must be on an English team for at least three years before the age of twenty-one[4] which **** wanted to reduce to eighteen. This would mean that a teenager would have to start at the club by the age of fifteen at the latest and, since players are not allowed to move across national boundaries before sixteen (except under exceptional circumstances), this would mean fewer foreign players could qualify as homegrown.

That doesn’t mean they have to come through your academy, only one of an English clubs. Tosin came through Man City’s and Kelly worked his way through the ranks of the Bristol clubs.

If it was just local lads then Ritchie wouldn’t count.

We should be well covered for the homegrown rule to be fair – Pope, Gillespie, Trippier, Tino, Lascelles, Burn, Target, Longstaff, Anderson, Gordon, Murphy, Wilson.

  9. If I’m wrong I’ll admit to it but could’ve sworn it was players who have come through your own system hence why Dummet got the extension
