According to reports in Italy, Newcastle United are interested in highly-rated Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori.
This comes from TuttoJuve, who claim that Juventus aren’t the only team showing real interest in the 22-year-old Italian who has starred over the 2023/24 season as Bologna secured a top-four finish.
They report that Newcastle ‘like the player a lot’, with Bayer Leverkusen and Tottenham also big admirers of the former Basel star.
It’s thought Juventus lead the race – which makes sense given Bologna boss Thiago Motta looks set to become their new manager – with the player also happy to remain in Italy.
TuttoJuve believe he’s likely to cost €30m; a relatively low fee given his age, huge potential and ability to play anywhere across the back four or as a holding midfielder. He’s also been compared to former Basel star Fabian Schar for his ability to carry the ball out of defence.
