Newcastle plan to bring in four "high impact" signings and two likely to leave - Report
As reported by Mark Douglas at the i, Newcastle are targeting four 'high impact' signings this summer while Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett are now likely to leave the club after we missed out on Europe.
Missing out on European football has been a blow to Newcastle, especially when just a few weeks ago they were in pole position to claim the Europa Conference League spot, but it has not changed their transfer mantra.
It seems the club would prefer to sign quality over quantity and are seeking four top players to improve the squad for next season and with the rumours currently circulating those positions are likely to be a central defender, goalkeeper, striker and right-winger.
The issue, of course, is convincing those top players to join without offering them Champions League football, so they'll either have to pay above the going rate or provide a clear pathway to Europe's elite competition in years to come.
As for those heading for the exit door, Eddie Howe would have liked to retain both Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett - perhaps more so for their efforts off the pitch - but a lack of European football means they are likely to leave when their contracts expire in June.
