3 players axed from England squad - 4 more set to go ahead of Euro 2024 deadline
According to reports this morning, Gareth Southgate has told James Maddison, Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah they will not be involved in his final England squad ahead of Euro 2024.
The Three Lions boss selected his 33-man provisional squad two weeks ago, but this was always going to be cut down to 26 ahead of UEFA's deadline tomorrow.
Four more will therefore be axed over the next 24 hours, but Maddison - a player Newcastle looked to sign last summer - won't be on the plane after struggling with form and injuries over the second half of 2023/24.
Liverpool's Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah also won't make it, boosting Anthony Gordon's hopes of staying with the group. As things stand, here's the 30 players left in Southgate's squad ahead of tomorrow's final friendly:
Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal), James Trafford (Burnley).
Defenders: Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton), Lewis Dunk (Brighton), Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Harry Maguire (Manchester United), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (Newcastle), Kyle Walker (Manchester City)
Midfielders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Conor Gallagher (Chelsea), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace).
Forwards: Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Jarrod Bowen (West Ham), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Jack Grealish (Manchester City), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Ivan Toney (Brentford), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa).
Former Mag Ivan Toney is at risk of dropping out, as is recently linked goalkeeper James Trafford, with one of Lewis Dunk, Joe Gomez and Ezri Konsa in danger, dependant on Harry Maguire's fitness.
Which four can you see dropping out?
