It’s emerged that Fabian Schar suffered a broken nose during Switzerland’s 1-1 draw with Scotland last night.
The defender collided with Celtic’s Anthony Ralston in the 19th minute, confirming the injury after the match. “My nose is broken.” He said. “There were a lots of tackles and duels as we expected. They made it extremely difficult for us.”
Switzerland kicked off Group A with a deserved 3-1 win over Hungary in their opening game, but were made to battle for a 1-1 draw with the Scots last night, where Schar diverted Scott McTominay’s shot into his own goal early on before Xherdan Shaqiri equalised.
This is the second nose break of the tournament, with French star Kylian Mbappe suffering the same issue in France’s opener against Australia on Monday night.
This is the second time the 32-year-old has broken his nose and not the first time he’s suffered some form of head injury, with the defener making a habit of playing his way through knocks for club and now country.
Hopefully he makes a full recovery and is OK to feature in Switzerland’s final group match against Germany on Sunday.
