Two medicals booked as Newcastle agree to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh

Elliot Anderson is the latest Newcastle United talent set to depart as it emerged late last night that the Geordie midfielder is on his way to Nottingham Forest.

After confirming that we’ve agreed a £33m deal to sell Yankuba Minteh to Brighton, The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed that we’ve now reached an agreement that will see Anderson leave for the City Ground.

The fee involved is yet to be revealed, but Ornstein reports that it was another reluctant sale on Newcastle’s part, with exits for Minteh and Anderson both motivated by our need to comply with PSR over the final 24 hours of the financial year.

Minteh is due to complete his medical at Brighton today, while Anderson’s medical has also been booked in by Forest after he agreed to swap Newcastle for Nottingham despite recently breaking into Eddie Howe’s first-team squad.

It was reported yesterday that Newcastle held talks over a part-exchange that could see Forest’s Anthony Elanga head in the other direction, but Anderson’s move is a straight permanent deal, with it not yet clear if we’ll follow up our interest in the Swedish winger.

  1. That one hurts more than minteh if true, still question marks over if minteh can produce over here but Eli looked ready for a squad role and filled a home grown position too.
Obviously speaking in general rather than specifically about us but I can’t remember a worse looking window due to all this PSR ****. It’s a small victory though that all these hurdles rushed in to hinder us are having adverse effects for everyone. Lovely cutting your nose off to spite your face vibes.

  2. I suppose it is as good as we could have hoped for though far from ideal in a situation with psr that really stinks, it makes you wonder how and why Chelsea could even end up in a similar situation with the revenues they have.
PSR really needs to be adjusted very quickly or it will kill the premiere league and any chance of it being an open and competitive league.
Disappointed local lad Anderson has gone but in fairness he is just a squad player who gives his best and he will get more game time elsewhere, would have preferred to lose Almiron.

  3. Sad state of play in modern football when your having to sell local academy players like Anderson just to meet FFP agree with you Joseph got to be looked at quickly can see some owners going to hell with this what’s the point if we can’t compete

  4. Newcastle United must be having difficulties shifting Almiron & Wilson? Dubs would bring some cash in but not a significant amount!

I sincerely hope they are planning on shifting them, especially Almiron who has played about seven seasons as right winger and still cans use his right foot 🤷🏼‍♂️

Wilson we can’t sell until we get another striker signed.

And if our level of ambition is Calvert Lewin then it’s not good enough and if that’s the type of name being put forward by Howe is actually sack him now cos we won’t achieve anything with that level of signing.
